The Therapeutic Power of Connecting with the Outdoors

As a child, my parents would often take me on hikes through the dense, wet, and cold forests of Washington. I have memories of dragging my feet, lagging behind, and whining the whole time. However, what I didn't realize back then was that my dad was instilling in me a lifelong love for the wilderness by "forcing" me to hike and be in nature.

For me, nothing beats the therapeutic power of immersing myself deep in the mountains and forests, far from the chaos of daily life. There's a profound sense of healing that happens in these remote places, unlike anything else. The peacefulness that radiates from the natural world around me fills me with a sense of tranquility. Taking the time to slow down, inhale the crisp air, observe the insects buzzing, listen to the song of birds, and feel the gentle touch of the wind on my skin all contribute to this rejuvenating experience. Being surrounded by nature reminds me that life is truly awe-inspiring and mysterious beyond our understanding.

Getting outside, like I love to do, feels like hitting a restart button for my mind, body, and spirit, bringing me back to my natural state. This kind of healing leaves me feeling rejuvenated and ready to face life with more peace, joy, and ease. As the colder months approach, it may seem more challenging to get outside, but I encourage everyone to embrace the healing energy of nature in whatever way possible. Whether it's stepping outside in the morning to breathe deeply and soak up the sun, tending to a garden, or simply taking a walk in the rain, nature is all around us, waiting for us to notice and benefit from its offerings.
